The city does not serve our health well, with polluted air, highly processed food, and a sedentary lifestyle. All of these factors contribute to the development of civilization-related diseases, which are hard to avoid. To ensure vitality and improve health, it's worth spending at least 7 days in the mountains. Wisła, the city of Adam Małysz, seems to be the perfect destination for senior vacations!
Wisła, not without reason, is called the "Pearl of the Beskids" – 70% of the city's territory is mainly spruce forests with a mix of beech and fir trees. Walking among the trees will rejuvenate seniors, and the air filled with spruce needles will support the respiratory system. Wisła also boasts a picturesque valley called Malinka, surrounded on three sides by mountain ranges. It's home to the Vestina Hotel, often chosen by seniors seeking mountain vacations. The hotel is beloved not only for its beautiful hillside views but also for its excellent service, comfortable new rooms, hearty breakfasts, diverse dinners, and a spa area.
Although Wisła is a peaceful place, there's no shortage of things to do here: numerous events, many hiking trails, and interesting places to visit make mountain vacations an unforgettable experience for seniors.
The hotel itself offers plenty of attractions: a spa area, a foosball room, billiards, and a ping-pong table. You can also rent a bike on-site, and if needed, the reception can arrange taxis for guests. Next to the hotel, you'll find the Chata Grillowa with a large brass spit. Here, you can try regional dishes and even dance on the dance floor to the sounds of highland music.
So, how can seniors spend their vacation in Wisła? Here are a few of our suggestions:
1. Jacuzzi, sauna, or salt cave – the best way to relax for seniors.
The Vestina Hotel in Wisła has an intimate spa area that you can reserve for exclusive use. It includes a dry sauna, known for its health benefits, a salt cave that positively affects the respiratory system, and a Jacuzzi. Seniors can also relax with foot, neck, head, and back massages, as well as try less common treatments like hot stone or herbal stamp massages.
2. A tour of Wisła by a small train.
You can explore Wisła in many ways – actively on a bike or, for a change, visit the city's key points in a small train! To take a ride on the small train, head to the center of Wisła. The first stop is near the market square and is easy to spot. One of the routes, lasting 2.5 hours, goes through the Wisła Głębce railway viaduct, Kubalonka Pass, and the historic wooden church. Another route, lasting 3.5 hours, takes you to Ustroń. Our reception can provide information about the current small train departure times.
3. The Cieńkowska Loop Trail.
Passionate hikers may choose long walks along nature trails and even hikes to Baranią Góra. For those who want to spare their knees, there's a shorter walk. The walk begins after leaving the Vestina Hotel. Within two minutes, you'll reach the "Cieńków" ski resort. From there, you can take a chairlift to the top. Once at the upper station, consider taking a walk (1.3 km) toward the Adam Małysz ski jump. Along the way, you'll find educational and recreational spots. You can admire the panorama of the Low Beskids and Lake Czerniańskie.
With a ticket purchased at the "Cieńków" ski resort, you can access the ski jump's starting tower, which houses an observation point and a café. To get back down, there's a cable car. It takes only about 20 minutes to walk back to the hotel from there.
4. Nordic walking for seniors in Wisła.
Wisła is also characterized by the fact that most of its forest trails are perfect for Nordic walking. Just cross the hotel gate, and you'll find yourself on one of these trails. You can take a 3.5-kilometer walk around Lake Czerniańskie, while admiring the Presidential Palace in Wisła. Another picturesque route is the Dolina Czarnej Wisełki (Black Wisełka Valley), about 9 km from our hotel. There's parking near the entrance to the park. The path is asphalted and meanders beautifully among tall trees and lush vegetation. The views are breathtaking, making it a beautiful place to relax. Dolina Czarnej Wisełki is also the starting point for the trail to Baranią Góra.
5. Stroll through the center of Wisła.
It's also worth dedicating one day to walking through the center of Wisła. Here, you'll find the A. Podżorski Beskid Museum, located in a former inn from 1794. Right next door is the beautiful Evangelical-Augsburg Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. The Kopczyński Park, hidden behind the Health Resort House, is also a great place for a short walk and to see the Alley of Promises and Legends, as well as miniatures of historical monuments. Near the market square is the Stanisław Hadyna Amphitheater, where many concerts and performances take place, especially during the summer.
6. Bridge at the hotel, a good book, or a movie.
Of course, vacations in the mountains don't have to be all about constant hiking. There's nothing wrong with taking a less active approach to relaxation. In the hotel, you can play billiards or table tennis. You can sit on the restaurant terrace with a cup of coffee and a piece of cake and enjoy a good book. Get comfortable on your hotel room bed and watch a good movie. You can play bridge with companions or have a few rounds of chess. Vacationing for seniors in the mountains can take on various forms!
7. Interesting events in Wisła for seniors.
When choosing your arrival date in Wisła, it's a good idea to check in advance for upcoming events. At the beginning of June, the Jerzy Pilch Granatowe Góry Festival of Words takes place, attracting actors, journalists, book authors, and Pilch's admirers from all over Poland. In July, there's the Summer Grand Prix in ski jumping at the Adam Małysz ski jump. In the first week of August, a major event, the Week of Beskid Culture, is held. During this time, you can hear highland bands and folklore groups from as far away as Colombia, Serbia, and North Macedonia in Wisła and other surrounding towns. In August, there are usually also the Days of Wisła, another event where you can experience the highland spirit.
